Burglary is something that every business owner fears. So here are some things that you can do to help prevent burglary at your place of business.
Install Some Lights
- Ensure there’s ample lighting for illuminating the whole outside of your business.
- If the adjacent property is yours, that should be included too.
- For saving on your electric bill, use timers for turning the lights on and off.
- Install lighting that’s motion-sensor
- Keep the lights on indoors so that the activity that’s going on can be seen from the outside.
Put in a Good Security System
- Put security cameras both outside and inside and these are going to deter and help with catching intruders.
- If shoplifters target you, the cameras are going to stop as well as reduce the incidents
- If you think that employees are stealing, the cameras are going to deter them.
- Install alarms on the valuable equipment or safe
- Think about hiring a hiring service that’s going to contact police
Make Sure You’re Proactive
- Lock your doors and your windows upon leaving
- Install exterior doors that are solid and equipped with deadbolt locks that are heavy-duty
- Use blocking devices that are secondary on any glass doors that slide
- Secure any overhead doors that are like garage doors using padlocks on the door’s roller channel.
- Move any trash dumpsters so that they’re away from your building so that the hiding places are eliminated.
- If there’s vehicles on the property, during the night, they should be parked away from your buildings.
- Trim trees and shrubs to make your building more visible
- Make sure that people can’t get in through the ventilation system of the business.
These are the things that you can do to help keep your business secure when you are there and when you are away. They aren’t a guarantee that you won’t be robbed, but they are really going to reduce your chances of being robbed. The people are going to look for an easier target than your business.
